Draft Study: Mar King

The side by side comparison of my first draft and my published version is available! Doing a draft study can be extremely beneficial to your overall growth as a writer. It can improve your craft as well as sharpen your critical eye. Unfortunately, there just aren’t many authors willing to put up their terrible first drafts. I’m taking one for the team!

𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈: Part I includes a PDF of chapter one with my editor eye/author notes.

𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈: Part II includes a PDF of the beginning of chapter 2 with my editor eye/author notes. 

𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈𝐈: With parts I and II under your belt, this is where most of the draft study benefits comes in to play. Part III includes a PDF of a scene near chapter 10 without my editor/author notes. This is to challenge you to think critically about the changes made and apply what you’ve learned from parts I and II. I encourage you to print it out and practice “MarKing” it up! Break out those highlighters and colored pens and have fun! Compare your notes with your writer friends. This is a great chance for an in depth conversation, growing your editor skills, and becoming more aware as a writer.
